Žminj earrings and Žminj ring

Žminj earrings (“rićin”) and ring have been found in an early Croatian cemetery in the middle of the last century in Žminj. Their replicas are today sold as souvenirs and decorative items in Heidi Flower Studio in Žminj.

Water supplies in Žminj were always scarce, as evidenced by early travel writers. Žminj received its first public cistern before 1879, since during that year it was mentioned for the first time as (...) una grandiosa cisterna.

Žminj’s “ladonja”

Our ladonja tree, commonly known as Celtis australis or European nettle tree, is located in front of St. Michael’s Church. Its shade covers a good part of the square. Children always played under its branches while the adults would chat and get together.

This recipe includes traditional Istrian pasta and the cream skimmed from whole milk. The dish was usually served on Fridays, known as the days of fasting. Žminj’s locals call it “Makaruni z škarupuon”.
